“The real problem isn’t hanging out there, it’s buried deep in the subconscious."
Stavros Spyrou, founder of Clear.Discover, guides successful people, who feel something's missing, to find their ultimate passion.
Hi Stavros, you work with high achieving business leaders. What makes a good leader?
Open communication and listening to ideas. A good leader knows where they or their company are going but they are not fixed to the route to get there. There's also respect and trust for employees and they see themselves as part of a team. Micromanaging is bad leadership - think bosses always checking to see how things are coming along and meetings that are simply a monologue. Bad leaders also don't check in with employees and only see the mistakes/failures, not the accomplishments.
What is your process for helping your high achiever clients?
I help people clear out those long-standing patterns that keep them stuck. It's usually when the conscious mind wants to go one way, but the subconscious has other ideas. By working together, we get everything aligned, so they can move forward without all that inner conflict. I see things from a client’s point of view. I was a client myself before being a coach. I’m also open to trying new ideas and not wedded to the old. I enjoy it, it gives me energy. I know it works, there are tangible results.
It's easy for people to think successful people don't have self-doubt or other limiting beliefs. What other misconceptions do people have about what you do?
The biggest misconception people have is that change can't happen in a short period of time and they think it's a long arduous process. Through social conditioning people believe - and believe is the key word - change has to be hard, change has to be difficult, change has to take a long time and maybe even "I" can't change. When you have these beliefs you cannot see areas where change can be easy and quick. Even if things can change easily you will unconsciously make it hard to fit in with the existing narrative of what is believed.
Why do people resist getting the help they need?
If you are a high achiever, and have success at a recognised level from a societal point of view, it’s often hard to recognise that what you re feeling can change, and even harder to ask for help. You could keep pushing through; after all, you’ve done it before. People default to believing that the resistance is part of the success. They believe they need to tough it out.
This work isn’t about fixing something broken—it’s about making success feel smoother and more rewarding. The sooner you address what’s holding you back from feeling good, the quicker you’ll find that progress can come with less friction.
Can you share an exercise that someone can do to help themselves right now?
Let’s assume they are worried about taking the next step in their business, e.g. promoting themselves on social media.
Here’s an easy experiment.
1. Close your eyes.
2. Imagine your promoting yourself on social media.
3. As you imagine running this, what feelings spring to mind? There maybe some positive feelings, however notice where you feel resistance.
4. As you lean into this resistance, what thoughts spring to mind? You’ll be surprised by what comes up.
5. Open your eyes and write down the thoughts that popped up.
The thoughts show you where your resistance is and what blocks and beliefs are in the way.

“We can not solve our problems with the same level of thinking that created them.” - Albert Einstein
I love this quote because it sums up what I do!
A lot of self-help stuff—like affirmations, positive thinking, and endless books try to fix things at the conscious level, but the real problem isn’t hanging out there. It’s buried deep in the subconscious.
